Overview
Jordanes was a 6th-century Eastern Roman bureaucrat of Gothic descent who became a historian, writing two influential works: Romana on Roman history and Getica on the Goths. His writings, particularly Getica, are crucial for understanding the early history of the Goths. Jordanes' work was influenced by Cassiodorus and has been compared to that of Isidore of Seville and Procopius.
