The East Village is a neighborhood on the East Side of Lower Manhattan in New York City, New York. The East Village was home to opulent estates in the 19th century and became a hub for artists, musicians, students, and hippies in the 1960s. Today, the neighborhood is known for its vibrant arts scene, diverse community, and historic landmarks. The East Village contains three subsections: Alphabet City, Little Ukraine, and the Bowery, each with its unique character and charm. The East Village is bounded by 14th Street to the north, Houston Street to the south, the Bowery to the west, and the East River to the east.
