Overview

The U.S. Fifth Fleet, officially known as U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), is the operational arm of the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, and Red Sea. Established in 1944 and re-established in its current form in 1995, it's headquartered in Manama, Bahrain, a strategic pivot point for regional security. Its primary mission is to deter aggression, reassure allies, and maintain the free flow of commerce through critical maritime chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz. Operating a diverse array of warships, aircraft, and specialized units, the Fifth Fleet is a constant presence, conducting exercises, patrols, and responding to crises in one of the world's most volatile regions.
